General Discussion / Drones are banned in SA with immediate effect
« Last post by tigger_na on October 29, 2014, 09:01:47 pm »
Which posed the question when our DCA will follow suit? On the one hand I am peeved, because I see drones as a potentially very useful farming tool. On the other hand, without flight rules that both exist and are adhered to, it is only a question of time until we will have a mid-air collision between a drone and manned aircraft, and our microlights are certainly prime candidates.

General Discussion / V5-UJM is back!
« Last post by tigger_na on September 14, 2014, 07:15:51 pm »
Dear Forumites

Good news! Not only did we not loose V5-UJM, we gained two new very enthusiastic microlighters in the Namibian skies, Oom Mathian and his son, Danny Hoffman.

After a successful emergency landing, brought about by an empty fuel tank, the B22 Bantam of the Hoffman's was severely damaged. I never thought it'd fly again. It does. After only one week and N$118k later, V5-UJM was airworthy again. The bill for repairs even included a minor engine overhaul.! If ever a microlight manufacturer deserved kudos, Micro Aviation in Nelspruit certainly takes the cake. Here is an agent (and lately manufacturer of the Bat Hawk) who has turned everything I've ever known about microlight agents completely on it's head. Well done!

And welcome, Oom Mathian and Danny, I wish you many many soft landings.

General Discussion / Landing facility at Otavi/Grootfontein
« Last post by tigger_na on July 21, 2014, 08:44:35 am »
Dear Forumites

I want to ferry a Bantam from Outjo to Rundu and need a refueling point in-between. Grootfontein military base may be off-limits for civil aviation and Tsumeb is a bit out of the way. Does anybody here know of a private landing strip in that vicinity, ie south of Tsumeb, east of Otavi?

Hi all,

The trip is in the past and just a short feedback, it was absolutely worth the effort, nature sights indescribable, the canyon as it start already some distance after Keetmans was spectacular this is views that cannot be described but must be experienced and viewed.
We all made good flying friends for life, as well as their friendly helpful families, the different aircraft - trikes, Gyros and fixed wing flew in harmony every day a real positive experience, these times with friends who like fly and nature as we all do is priceless.
All who could not attend we can only hope to see you on the next trip, and all who where there thanks for a special time.

Greetings to all and remember the SKY is the limit.

General Discussion / Re: Bantams/ MPL class rentals
« Last post by Gemini on May 11, 2014, 06:42:30 pm »
Hi matt,

Aircraft for hire in Namibia is a scarce thing, there is however a good Hawk Arrow for sale or maybe for hire at Okonjima, you can contact Janek Hoth at 0812326957,  otherwise there are two Bantams in Namibia and the  owners will not rent it out, I will try to get an owners info during the coming week who own a Bantam in Outjo he want to do training soon and afterwards may you can see if you can also fly it at times in Outjo which is not too far from Otjiwarongo, depending on the owner.

regards

General Discussion / Bantams/ MPL class rentals
« Last post by lindenbergm on May 08, 2014, 11:07:56 am »
Dear MICAN community

I posses an MPL licence from RSA. I am currently working in the conservation field near Otjiwarongo. Am very keen to get up in the air again as I haven't flown since moving to Nam. Could anyone please give me some guidance/ advice as to whom I may contact with regards to a Bantam/ Similar plane rental within my general region of central Nam?

Any suggestions/ leads would be greatly appreciated.

Warm regards
Matt Lindenberg :)
